i’m using one of ’s august poetry prompts, receiving a letter in the mail. thank you holly for posting them!
the envelope sits, edges worn, a whisper of a journey unseen, fingers tracing the ink, like a map to somewhere familiar, yet forgotten. i almost hear it— the rustle of paper folded too many times, secrets pressed between its creases, and i wonder what waits inside, words tethered to memories, maybe to longing. opening it feels like breaking a promise, like tearing a part of time that wasn't ready to unravel yet, and still, i hold my breath. each sentence spills into the next, a voice i once knew, or maybe still do, spilling its weight onto my skin, leaving imprints of the past i didn’t know i missed. and i fold it back, trying to tuck away the ache it brings, but the words linger like fingerprints on glass, invisible, yet always there, quiet and heavy. i wonder if you'll write again— if words can travel that far, across this sea of silence, finding me in places where even i feel lost.
thank YOU for this!! what a perfect poem
This is so beautiful and touching!! 🥹
